Island ist ein gro\u00dfartiger Ort, um Tiere und Wildtiere in ihrer nat\u00fcrlichen Umgebung zu beobachten \u2013 den schwer fassbaren arktischen Fuchs, neugierigen Robben, frei umherstreifende Schafe, das robuste isl\u00e4ndische Pferd und eine unglaubliche Vielfalt an Meeresbewohnern und V\u00f6geln.<\/p>\n

Der arktische Fuchs ist das einzige heimische Landtier Islands. Alle anderen wurden von fr\u00fchen Siedlern mitgebracht oder erst k\u00fcrzlich importiert. Einige davon gelten jedoch heute als einzigartige und besondere Rassen dank ihrer jahrhundertelangen Isolation.<\/p>\n

Arktischer Fuchs<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Das einzige heimische Landtier Islands ist ein Nachkomme der letzten Eiszeit. Man geht davon aus, dass es auf dem Weg \u00fcber das gefrorene Meer nach Island gelangte und sich dort aufgrund der R\u00fcckzug des Eises nach Norden verweilte.<\/p>\n

Abseits der Massen an der Ringstra\u00dfe ist das abgelegene Westfjordland der beste Ort in Island, um F\u00fcchse zu sehen, insbesondere im unbewohnten Naturschutzgebiet Hornstrandir, wo sie vor dem Jagen gesch\u00fctzt und weniger von Menschen angefressen werden.<\/p>\n

In der Ortschaft Hesteyri lebt eine Familie von F\u00fcchsen, die gerne mit Menschen in Kontakt kommt. Hesteyri ist nur eine kurze Bootsfahrt vom Hafen von Isafjordur entfernt.<\/p>\n

Sie k\u00f6nnen diese schwer zu erziehenden Kreaturen auch beim Bergwandern in der Wildnis der Westfjorde beobachten \u2013 und zwar nicht nur auf Hornstrandir. Wir bieten gef\u00fchrte Wanderungen ab H\u00e4fen von Isafjordur<\/a> und Patreksfjordur<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Obwohl es nichts Besseres gibt als sie in freier Wildbahn zu sehen, beherbergt die Stadt Sudavik das nationale Zentrum f\u00fcr arktische F\u00fcchse, das sich der Erhaltung und dem Schutz der arktischen F\u00fcchse widmet. Neben der faszinierenden Ausstellung verf\u00fcgt es auch \u00fcber einen Au\u00dfengehege, in dem gerettete F\u00fcchse untergebracht sind.

Schaf<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Die isl\u00e4ndische Schafherde wurde von den ersten Siedlern nach Island gebracht und war entscheidend f\u00fcr das \u00dcberleben unter den schwierigen Bedingungen. Sie ist ein nationales Symbol f\u00fcr Ausdauer.<\/p>\n

Die Schafherde sind in der \u00dcberzahl: Sie sind 2:1 gr\u00f6\u00dfer als die Menschen und werden haupts\u00e4chlich wegen ihrer Wolle und ihres Fleisches gez\u00fcchtet. Im Sommer werden sie freigelassen und streifen durch die Landschaft, klettern in die Berge und \u00fcberqueren oft verkehrsreiche Stra\u00dfen, was unerfahrenen Autofahrern Verwirrung stiflt.<\/p>\n

Ihr weicher und einzigartiger wasserabweisender Wollstoff ist die Essenz des isl\u00e4ndischen Pullovers \u2018lopapeysa\u2019, und das zarte Fleisch, das durch seine Ern\u00e4hrung aus wilden Gr\u00e4sern, Kr\u00e4utern und Beeren nat\u00fcrlich aromatisiert ist, ist eine wahre Delikatesse.<\/p>\n

Pferde<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Ein weiteres, mehr als tausend Jahre alter reinrassiges Pferd, das isl\u00e4ndische Pferd, ist robust, freundlich und einzigartig. Es ist die einzige Rasse der Welt, die f\u00fcnf Gangarten besitzt, eine Vielzahl an Fellfarben hat und sogar eine Namenskommission hat, die ihre Namen regelt!<\/p>\n

Tats\u00e4chlich ist diese wundersch\u00f6ne Rasse international so beliebt geworden, dass heute mehr isl\u00e4ndische Pferde im Ausland als zu Hause zu finden sind.<\/p>\n

Schildkr\u00f6ten haben die K\u00fcsten Islands schon lange vor der Ankunft der Menschen bewohnt und waren f\u00fcr die fr\u00fchen Siedler von enormer Bedeutung, die ihre Fleisch, Haut und \u00d6l nutzten.
Die beiden Arten \u2013 die Hafen- und die Grauselmannsotter \u2013 leben das ganze Jahr \u00fcber auf Island und sind am h\u00e4ufigsten in den Westfjorden, im Nordwesten Islands und in der Jokulsarlon-Gletscherschlucht im S\u00fcdosten Islands zu sehen.<\/p>\n

Kaninchen und Mink<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Neben der Fuchsart k\u00f6nnen Sie beim Wandern au\u00dferhalb der gewohnten Pfade auch die Minks oder Kaninchen beobachten.<\/p>\n

Die wilden Mink in Island sind Nachfahren der ersten Tiere, die in den 1930er Jahren f\u00fcr die Pelzproduktion importiert wurden. Dieses sehr anpassungsf\u00e4hige, semiaquatisches Tier hat sich schnell \u00fcber ganz Island ausgebreitet und hat das \u00d6kosystem negativ beeinflusst.<\/p>\n

Kaninchen sind eine weitere invasive Art, deren Zahl durch verlassene Haustiere stark gestiegen ist.<\/p>\n
