A propos de l'excursion

Your Asbyrgi and Godafoss tour starts from Akureyri with a short drive to Godafoss waterfall. Nicknamed “Beauty” (with Dettifoss being the “Beast”), Godafoss is indeed one of the prettiest waterfalls in Iceland. Its name means “waterfall of the gods”, as it is believed that idols of the old Pagan gods were thrown into it when Iceland embraced Christianity in 1000 A.D.

We continue north to the fishing town of Husavik, which is widely regarded as the whale watching capital of Europe.
The sweeping and beautiful Skjalfandi Bay provides deep water with good shelter and rich feeding grounds. for this reason, the area hosts a wider variety of whale species close to shore than almost anywhere else in Iceland.
Skjalfandi Bay is the focus of Husavik, a charming town with colourful houses, on of Iceland’s most recognisable churches, and fantastic ocean views.
It is also famous as the setting for the 2020 Will Ferrell film ‘Eurovision Song Contest: the Story of Fire Saga’.

Further along the coast is the spectacular Asbyrgi canyon. Believed in folklore to be the footprint of Sleipnir, Odin’s eight-legged horse, it was formed thousands of years ago during catastrophic flooding of the Jokulsa a Fjollum river.
Les sentiers forestiers et l’étang de Botnstjorn dans le bassin du canyon sont parmi les endroits les plus sereins d’Islande.
