Myvatn, Godafoss & Naturbäder

Your tour starts with a short drive to the Godafoss waterfall. Nicknamed “Beauty” (with Dettifoss being the “Beast”), Godafoss is indeed one of the prettiest waterfalls in Iceland. Its name means “waterfall of the gods” as it is believed that idols of the old Gods were thrown into it when Iceland embraced Christianity in 1000 A.D.
We continue to Lake Myvatn, Iceland’s fourth largest lake, which is surrounded by diverse natural wonders.

Driving past the northern shore of the lake, our first stop is the colourful geothermal areas of Hverir, where you can experience the force of nature amidst sulphurous fissures in the cracked earth, steaming fumaroles and bubbling mud pools.

Obwohl sie nach den Eruptionen von Krafla zu warm war, um darin zu baden, ist ihre tiefblaue Farbe und die versteckte Lage sehr beliebt, besonders nachdem sie in der Serie Game of Thrones vorgestellt wurde.

Next, we head to Dimmuborgir (or Dark Cities), where you can walk amidst some of the most fascinating rock formations in Iceland. The place is believed to be the place where the 13 Icelandic Yule Lads (Santa Clauses) live.

You will also explore the pseudocraters at Skutustadagigar. Formed 2300 years ago, these unusual geological creations are the result of bubbling lava flowing over mushy wetlands.

Time permitting; we can also stop for photos of the lake, the Hofdi lava pillars and the milky blue geothermal waters near the Nature Baths.

Since this is a private tour, it is also possible to include extra time for a visit to the Nature Baths.
