Join us on a scenic journey from Ísafjörður to the charming village of Þingeyri in Dýrafjörður, where we’ll make a brief stop for sightseeing and a refreshment break. From there, we’ll travel along one of the Westfjords’ most dramatic and historic mountain roads—originally carved into the cliffs by a modest 70-horsepower bulldozer affectionately known as “The Teaspoon”, operated by the legendary Elis Kjaran and his son Ragnar.

As we wind our way through this rugged terrain, you’ll pass deserted farms and take in sweeping views of the stunning mountain range often called the “Westfjord Alps”—a true hidden gem of Iceland’s natural beauty.

For our return to Ísafjörður, the route will depend on current road conditions. We may take the steep and narrow Hrafnseyrarheiði heath road, the scenic Álftarmýri heath (typically accessible from late July), or, if both are closed, we’ll return via the tunnel connecting Arnarfjörður and Dýrafjörður.

What to bring: There is not much hiking involved but it’s a good idea to have good shoes because if it’s raining some of the stops have slippery grass. Dress according to weather. If you have binoculars, bring them because sometimes we spot some wildlife along the way. A picnic lunch is a good idea but we will stop at a café where you can buy coffee and waffles and such if you want.
