More about the Tour

We start the tour by driving over the mountain pass to Egilsstadir. A winding road surrounded by steep mountains, this route was used as one of the filming locations for the Secret Life of Walter Mitty.

The brief stop at Gufufoss waterfall allows for beautiful views over Seydisfjordur. Translated as steam waterfall, Gufufoss resembles the famous Skogafoss waterfall on the South Coast, but with far fewer crowds.

Egilsstadir, the capital of the Eastfjords, is set on the banks of the Lake Lagarfljot. Iceland’s third largest lake, it is rumoured to be home to a lake monster, the Lagarfljotsormur (or lake worm).
The road from Seydisfjordur offers some of the best views of the lake and the Fljotsdalur valley.

Home to the tiny village of Brekkuthorp that has just 40 residents, narrow Mjoifjordur is widely considered to be one of Iceland’s most beautiful and remote fjords. In winter, the winding gravel road closes and the only way to get to the fjord is a ferry from Neskaupstadur making the town one of the most isolated in Iceland.
The view from the steep mountain road is breathtaking.

A series of 9 waterfalls, the Klifbrekkufossar waterfalls and the shipwreck at the bottom of the fjord make for interesting photo stops.

It is also possible to extend the tour to take the winding gravel road to the Dalatangi lighthouse. Perched high on the cliffs, and the eastern most point of Iceland that you can drive to, Dalatangi offers spectacular views of the surrounding fjords and Atlantic Ocean. This extension takes up to an extra four hours.

Time permitting; we can drive around the town of Seydisfjordur before you need to get back to your ship. Just outside of town are the Tvisongur song sculptures where you can experiment with sounds and unleash your inner singer.
