Wasserfall Godafoss und Botanischer Garten

Ihre Tour beginnt mit einer kurzen Fahrt zum Wasserfall Godafoss. Der “Schönheit” (mit Dettifoss als “Tier”) getaufte Wasserfall ist tatsächlich einer der schönsten Wasserfälle in Island. Sein Name bedeutet “Wasserfall der Götter”, da man glaubt, dass Idole der alten Götter in den Wasserfall geworfen wurden, als Island im Jahr 1000 n. Chr. zum Christentum überging.

Wir fahren zurück nach Akureyri über den Bergpass Vikurskard, mit herrlichem Blick über Eyjafjordur und die Stadt. Akureyri ist die zweitgrößte Stadt Islands außerhalb der Hauptstadtregion und das Herz von Nordisland.
The old town is charming, with well-preserved houses and monuments. Designed by the same architect as Reykjavik’s Hallgrimskirkja, the Lutheran church is one of Akureyri’s most famous icons.

In Akureyri, we stop at the Lystigardurinn botanical gardens. Just 50 kilometres south of the Arctic Circle, it is one of the world’s northernmost botanical gardens and a great place for a coffee.
