Vigur Island Puffin Tour

Join us for a relaxed two-hour boat tour through the beautiful bay of Ísafjörður, where you’ll enjoy views of the surrounding mountains and have the chance to see some of the area’s rich bird and marine life. As we sail, your guide will share insights about life in the Westfjords and the wildlife that thrives here.

Our main goal is to sail around Vigur Island, known for its large bird colonies. The island is home to around 100,000 puffins, 1,500 black guillemots (the largest colony in Iceland), and thousands of eiders. We’ll take our time exploring the area and watching the birds in their natural habitat.

This route also passes through waters where humpback whales are often seen. While we can’t promise a sighting, it’s always a possibility and adds a bit of excitement to the trip.

If sea conditions make it difficult to reach Vigur, we’ll head to a nearby fjord where puffins are also commonly found, and the sea is usually calmer. The exact route depends on the day’s weather and sea conditions.

We recommend bringing a camera and, if you have them, binoculars — especially useful for spotting seals sunbathing on the rocks when the tide is low. Please dress warmly, as it can get chilly out on the water.

We need a minimum of 12 persons total for the tour to go ahead. We offer 100% refund if the tour does not go ahead due to minimum persons not being reached.

All passengers should arrive half an hour before the departure times.
