Home / Tours / Isafjordur / Dynjandi & Thingeyri: Stories of the Westfjords
Escape the busy harbor of Isafjordur and embark on a delightful adventure into the heart of Iceland’s Westfjords!
Perfect for families and small groups, this guided journey is filled with fascinating stories, local history, and a glimpse into the everyday life of one of Iceland’s most beautiful and remote regions. Relax in your seat, take in the scenery, and let your local guide introduce you to the landscapes, legends and people of the Westfjords.
Leave the bustle of the harbor behind and set off on a scenic drive towards Dynjandi. The road winds along deep fjords and beneath mountains, and your guide will share stories of the region’s history, its fishing traditions and the resilient communities that call this remote corner of Iceland home.
Along the way, you will enjoy one or two photo stops, the perfect opportunity to capture the sweeping views over the fjords and the rugged coastline.
Marvel at Dynjandi, known as the Jewel of the Westfjords, where sparkling water tumbles gracefully down the mountainside like a bridal veil. Widening as it falls, the cascade is one of the most spectacular sights in the region and a highlight for visitors of all ages.
You will have a full hour at the waterfall to explore at your own pace, stroll closer to the falls, take photos and simply enjoy the sound and the scenery. When you return from the waterfall, a refreshment awaits you.
Next, continue to the fishing village of Thingeyri, famous for its Viking-age heritage and warm, welcoming community spirit. Your drive begins with a relaxed loop around the village, giving you a first glimpse of its colorful houses, its harbor and its peaceful atmosphere.
You will then enjoy a 40-minute stop at the village café, where you can buy something to eat and use the restroom. You are free to spend this time as you wish:
This trip is a chance to discover Iceland’s wildlife. The nearby cliffs and shorelines are home to many seabirds, such as fulmars, Arctic terns and eiders, while seals rest on the rocks in the fjord. The luckiest visitors may spot the elusive Arctic fox, Iceland’s only native land mammal.
After your time in Thingeyri, make your way back to Isafjordur. Once again, you will have one or two photo stops along the way, so you can enjoy the fjords in a different light and take home even more memories of the Westfjords.
This tour is a wonderful way for everyone to experience the magic and charm of Iceland. With a relaxed pace, a spectacular waterfall, a village full of character and plenty of time for photos, food and exploration, it offers a genuine taste of the Westfjords, far from the crowds and rich in authentic encounters.
Whether you are traveling with children, grandparents or a small group of friends, this journey promises a memorable day filled with natural beauty, history and warm Icelandic hospitality.
