Patreksfjordur

Welcome to Patreksfjordur

Patreksfjordur was named after Patrick, a Scottish bishop and the spiritual leader of the first settler. The heart of the southern Westfjords, it is perfectly located to visit some of the most unique natural attractions of the region.

Built on a coastal lagoon, the town was one of the most important fishing ports of the region in the 16th century and also a pioneer in trawler fishing in the early 20th century. It is home to approximately 650 persons.

You’ll be spoilt for choice of sights to see on your cruise stop in Patreksfjordur.
The dramatic Latrabjarg bird cliffs are one of the best places to observe seabirds. Raudasandur is a unique red sand beach and home to a colony of seals. The 7-tiered Dynjandi waterfall is definitely one of Iceland’s prettiest. Add to that shipwrecks, rustic hot pools, hiking trails and fjords filled with sea monsters (or so we have been told by the Sea Monster Museum in nearby Bildudalur) – the southern Westfjords have no shortage of surprises.
