• Small Village Charm of Borgafjordur Eystri
Your adventure begins the moment you step off your cruise ship in the picturesque harbor town of Seyðisfjörður.
Once our small group is assembled at the terminal, we will set off on a breathtaking 1.5-hour drive across spectacular mountain roads toward the remote Eastfjords.
As we navigate the dramatic peaks and winding valleys, your local driver-guide will bring the landscape to life with captivating stories, folklore, and the rich history of this rugged coast.
Our destination is Borgarfjörður eystri, widely celebrated as Iceland’s premier puffin capital.
Upon arrival, you will have about 75 minutes to explore the nesting grounds entirely at your own pace. A network of sturdy wooden viewing platforms allows you to walk within just a few meters of thousands of these charming, colorful seabirds. It’s an absolute paradise for photographers and wildlife lovers alike.
Safe, modern restroom facilities are located right at the site, along with a cozy harbor café perfect for a quick espresso or coffee mid-exploration.
After bidding the puffins farewell, a short drive brings us into the heart of the tranquil village for a relaxed, seated lunch featuring local Icelandic flavors. With your appetite satisfied, take some time to wander the quiet streets, browse for authentic handmade crafts and unique souvenirs, or simply soak in the serene village atmosphere.
Finally, we will begin our return journey back over the mountain pass, offering a fresh, stunning perspective of the surrounding fjords. We will have you back at the Seyðisfjörður cruise terminal with plenty of time to spare before your ship’s departure, leaving you with unforgettable memories of Iceland’s wild eastern edge.
